Resources sites

OneWorld
OneWorld is dedicated to promoting human rights and sustainable development by harnessing the democratic potential of the Internet. Instead of creating one large space into which all manner of documents were dropped from many partners, OneWorld created separate, autonomous Web sites for each of its development partners. VSO, for example, had their own site created for them, over which they have both editorial control - and editorial responsibility. Libel and copyright issues relating to their information are their business, and there is a formal contract that says so. Has a search tool that looks for information in all the pages of the 350 organisations affiliated to the network. THE SITE OF THE NGOs
Euforic
Euforic is a focal point for communities involved in Europe's international cooperation. Euforic aims to be an information resource and forum for discussion between, on the one side, organisations in Europe and, on the other, those in developing countries. As a search and index. Good place to start.

Human made reference site ( by Boris Kester (bkester@alcazar.com) . " The purpose of this site is to provide for a meta-index to resources of international organizations. These may be related to aid, trade, economy, humanity, research, international relations, health, women's development, nutrition, education, ecology, demography, human rights, development policy, etc. Any organization concerned with the development of underprivilegedregions/peoples/countries/continents in the world theoretically qualifies to be mentioned here." BOL: Not maintained anymore. Classification a bit confusing for me. Good references.

The impact of NGO development projects, ODI
Summary: It examines the evidence of their impact, discusses methods of assessing that impact and reviews the ways that donors and NGOs approach the issue of impact assessment. Over the past two decades official donors have increased their funding of NGO development projects (see ODI Briefing Paper 1995(4), NGOs and Official Donors). Donors tend to fund NGO development activities on a project-by-project basis; all the evaluations have therefore focused on the impact of these discrete projects. Excellent synthesis on this issue.

Thematic networks and NGOs

Gender Studies in Agriculture Cooperation, Networking and Exchange
At present, Gender Studies at Wageningen is spearheading an effort to build an International Consortium on Gender, Agriculture and Rural Development, and is inviting specific institutions and experts to participate. The purpose of the Consortium would be to facilitate collaboration among academics, researchers, practitioners and policy makers working in the field through a series of comparative and interdisciplinary projects and programmes that would collectively promote the stakeholders' endeavors internationally and facilitate national capacity building in this field, especially in the Third World and in countries in transition. It would encourage networking, training and education, and research and dissemination of knowledge and information through conferences, symposia, publications and interactions amongst academics, students and researchers, and between these and the international development community, especially those working in policy making. The consortium would, above all, permit the development and implementation of programmes and projects which would only be possible by combining resources, and seeking additional resources collectively.
